Launch of the CCUS & CDR taskforce

The first meeting of the CCUS & CDR Taskforce, a national platform dedicated to coordinating and monitoring the deployment of carbon dioxide capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) technologies as well as solutions for removing CO₂ from the atmosphere (CDR), was organised on 3 December by the Ministry for the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity, and the Ministry for the Economy.

This initiative is part of the implementation of the national action framework for the deployment of CCUS & CDR technologies in Luxembourg, approved on 4 July 2025 by the Government Council. This action framework is based on seven strategic measures to enable the gradual and sensitive use of these technologies over time, including the creation of dedicated governance, including an interministerial steering committee and the CCUS & CDR Taskforce.

The aim of the CCUS & CDR Taskforce is to bring together and coordinate all public and private stakeholders to ensure a coherent and inclusive approach. The bi-annual meetings will provide an opportunity for regular monitoring and constructive discussion.

At the first meeting, attended by representatives from various ministries and government departments, businesses, research institutes, regional partners and NGOs, the CCUS & CDR framework for action was presented. An update was also given on the implementation of this framework.

In particular, discussions focused on developments in the European framework in this area, forthcoming calls for projects under the European Union's Innovation Fund and studies initiated at national level.
