Grand Dossier Layman: the results of LIST's environmental research for a sustainable future compiled for the general public

Supported by the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity (MECB) and its Environment Administration (AEV), the environmental research carried out by the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) over the last ten years is now available to Luxembourg citizens in a major dossier.

More than twenty research, innovation and monitoring projects have been selected and grouped together to raise awareness of the many ways in which the environment and public health can be preserved while ensuring a strong economy. Three of the major environmental themes covered by LIST are presented: monitoring the status of biodiversity, water monitoring and management, and research support for Luxembourg's environmental policies and businesses.

At the instigation of the MECB and its departments, this book is available online in French and English. Readers will find a concise overview of the environmental pressures to which this research is responding, how it is being carried out, the results already obtained and future avenues of research.

Some of these initiatives also offer a participatory science approach. The general public in Luxembourg is thus made aware of the research that will shape the world of tomorrow. The first results obtained thanks to the participation of volunteers in the monitoring of cyanobacteria blooms in Luxembourg's water bodies are a concrete example of this.

«While these environmental research projects address very different issues, they all share a common goal: together, we have the power to build a more sustainable and resilient future for generations to come,» said Serge Wilmes, Minister for the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity.

«Luxembourg, like the rest of the world, is facing the emergence of new environmental, health and economic pressures due, in particular, to climate change. In this context, the results of research and innovation can be a powerful driver for an enlightened and agile national strategy», added Dirk Fransaer, acting CEO of the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology.
