YOUTH4CLIMATE interview

Do we still have a chance of achieving our climate targets?

If we didn't believe in it, we wouldn't get involved. But we have to change things NOW. From a scientific point of view, there is still a chance. And we are basing ourselves on science.

Politicians would do well to do the same. And as long as there are no radical measures to achieve the objectives of the Paris Agreement, we will continue.

How do you raise awareness among young people and motivate them to get involved?

Our mission is to get as many young people as possible involved in our events. We do this via social networks such as Facebook, Insta, Twitter and recently TikTok. We try to get in touch with schools via our networks and then go and stick up posters and stickers.

What do you think of all the noise about climate change?

What annoys me is that consumers are being attacked. Every initiative that motivates us to consume more sustainably is of course welcome. But only the government has the power to act quickly by taking the measures needed to make faster progress.
Let's take industry as an example: as a consumer, I can boycott a clothing brand because it doesn't correspond to my ethical values. But when it comes to gas, coal or oil, boycotting is almost impossible. And that's where we're calling on politicians to take responsibility with radical measures!
